Family Annihilator?

From the time they arrested Alec I've been reminded of the various men who, upon a devastating set of problems resulting is financial loss or loss of stature in their community, murdered their family and sometimes committed suicide. I've wondered why this similarity has never been mentioned. What do you think? Has this crossed your mind?
